EPISODE 3 – Stress: What is Environmental Stress & How to Survive the 21st Century
Have you ever heard of the term ‘environmental stress’?
You might be excused for thinking we are talking about climate change, but environmental stress actually relates to how we interact with the world around us. We are talking about the chemicals in our food, air, water, clothes, furniture, personal care products and how they impact the mind and body. Every year, we are exposed to over 100, 000 chemicals, and each year that number increases by 2000-3000 chemicals a year.
So what can we do about it? By making informed choices you can reduce the impact of this type of ubiquitous stress by 80-90%. In this episode, we explore environmental health with David O Carpenter, a public health physician and professor of environmental health sciences at the University of Albany, SUNY. His research interests have focused on the environmental causes of chronic diseases of old age including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, thyroid disease and neurodegenerative diseases.
And in the second half of this episode, we put this theory into action in a candid conversation with Julian Cribb, distinguished science journalist, Co-Founder of the Council for the Human Future and author of eight books, including “Surviving the 21st Century”.
